Daniel Newman – Director of Finance

BRYAN ROE, CCM, CCE – General Manager/COO

With over 35 years of club management experience, Bryan has a proven track record of building and motivating a strong team of professionals dedicated to delivering the highest levels of member satisfaction. Most recently, Bryan served at General Manager/COO at Naples Lakes Country Club where he oversaw both a golf course and clubhouse renovation. Prior to his tenure at Naples Lake, Bryan served as General Manager/COO at Wyndemere Country Club in Naples as well as at Abilene Country Club and Riverhill Country Club in his home state of Texas.

Bryan obtained the Certified Club Manager designation (CCM) in 1999 and earned the Certified Chief Executive designation in 2013. Both designations are awarded by the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) and together represent the highest level of professional credentials attainable in the industry.

Bryan and his wife, Tara, will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary later this year. They have two sons, Tanner and Conor. Tanner, 27, has recently earned his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation and works for an international banking firm with local offices in Southwest Florida. His son Conor, 24, has a degree in Health Care Management and will earn his MBA in December. He currently holds a management position with HCA and resides locally. Bryan enjoys spending time with his family, saltwater fishing, scuba diving, hiking, and traveling the world. He has a keen interest in sports cars and is a member of local car clubs.

Daniel J. Newman – Director of Finance

Daniel was born in The Bronx, New York. He attended St. John’s University in Queens where he graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Upon moving to Cape Coral shortly after graduation, Daniel worked for Lennar Corporation for 12 years. His jobs in the Country Club business include Assistant Controller at Miromar Lakes, Controller of West Bay Club for 8 years and Controller at Grey Oaks. Daniel’s wife, Jennifer, works at FGCU as the Lab Assistant in the School of Nursing. Their children, Brandon and Shane both live at home in Fort Myers and both attend FGCU. In his spare time Daniel loves to spend time with his family. He is an avid reader with eclectic tastes from biographies of Washington, Hamilton and Grant, to his love of Stephen King and Joe Hill. Daniel is also an avid sports fan. Not a day goes by without him supporting his beloved St. John’s Red Storm, New York Giants or the San Francisco Giants.

COLLEEN SOWERBY – MEMBERSHIP SALES DIRECTOR

Sarah Noone – Club Accountant

Sarah Noone was born and raised in Ft. Myers, Florida and attended Bishop Verot High School. She graduated from Florida Atlantic University and continued her education by attending graduate school at Florida Gulf Coast University. Sarah received her Master’s Degree in Social Work in 2010. Sarah has worked for meaningful community organizations including Pace Centers for Girls and The Salvation Army. Prior to coming to Estero Country Club, she managed the Accounting and Human Resources for a local irrigation and pest control company. Sarah enjoys spending time with her nieces and two chihuahuas. She also enjoys watching basketball and cheering on the FAU football team.

COLLEEN SOWERBY – MEMBERSHIP SALES DIRECTOR

MEG STEPANIAN, CMP – DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP AND MARKETING

Meg grew up in Syracuse, New York and has been a resident in Naples for more than 15 years. She decided if she ever wanted to learn the game of Golf and play before retiring, she had better move to Florida. A graduate of the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College, Meg has worked within the communications field in diverse roles throughout her career. She has worked in radio broadcasting, at national advertising agencies and in television broadcasting. It became clear that her skill set would lend itself well to the private club industry. Most recently, she served as the Director of Membership and Marketing at The Venice Golf and Country Club. Throughout her tenure at VCGG, she welcomed 173 families to the Community and directed the Club’s marketing and communications efforts. When not at work, you will find her in a kayak, likely taking lots of pictures, golfing, or enjoying vino. She lives with two sibling fur babies Ollie and Cici, who also get photographed a lot.

ANDREW PLESZ, PGA – HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL

ANDREW PLESZ, PGA – HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL

Originally from Connecticut, Andrew Plesz, has been enjoying Southwest Florida since the early 90’s. As a junior golfer he honed his skills at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida learning from David Leadbetter and some of the greats.  With a growing enthusiasm for the game, he chose to begin his golf career by enrolling at Florida Gulf Coast University, concentrating on Golf Management and business. He was elected into the membership of the PGA of America in 2011.

Locally, Andrew has served the membership of Shadow Wood Country Club and The Forest Country Club for the past two decades.  He has a passion for the industry, has a service-oriented heart, with a drive to enhance the member and guests experience.

When Andrew is not on the golf course, he loves spending time with his wife, Kastania, and their twin boys, Vai and Tavita.  Additionally, he is an avid fisherman with a passion for traveling.

Joe Rubino – 2nd Assistant Golf Professional

Joe Rubino – First Assistant Golf Professional

Joe grew up on Long Island and moved to Estero in the Fall of 2015. He graduated from Keiser University in 2014 with an Associate’s Degree in Golf Management and is currently working toward earning his Class A status with the PGA of America. Joe worked on Long Island at North Hills Country Club for 3 summers before making the move to Naples, where he worked for 4 years as an assistant at Foxfire Country Club. He is bringing with him a passion for customer service and is excited to join the Estero Country Club team. When Joe isn’t working in the pro shop, he likes playing golf, spending time at the beach and watching golf on television.

Asa Harp – Director of Merchandising

Asa joined the Estero Country Club staff in October 2018 as the Director of Merchandising. She is responsible for all Golf Shop retail operations. Prior to coming to Estero Country Club, Asa served as a Golf Merchandiser in Naples, FL. Asa grew up in Bonaire, Georgia and is an avid college football fan. She holds a B.A. in History and currently lives in Bonita Springs with her husband and son. She is an active member of the Association of Golf Merchandisers (AGM) and has a lifelong passion for the golf business.

T.J. SHINE – GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

T.J. SHINE – GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

Originally from St. Clair, Michigan, T.J. Shine attended Michigan State University where he graduated with a degree in Turfgrass Management. After graduation, he worked as a groundskeeper in minor league baseball for a year before moving to Florida to pursue his passion as a Golf Course Superintendent. T.J. worked as an Assistant Superintendent in Naples for 6 years and then proceeded to North Ft. Myers where he served as a Golf Course Superintendent for seven years. T.J. prides himself in continuing education and currently is the President of the Everglades Chapter of The Golf Course Superintendents Association. The attention to detail is what T.J. believes separates an average golf course from an elite golf course. T.J. will be devoted to bringing the best playing conditions possible to our membership. When not at work he enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children.

DENNIS SMITH – SOUS CHEF

Mark Thomas – Golf Course Superintendent

Mark was born and raised in East Sussex, England. He attended Plumpton College where he graduated with a Greenkeeping degree in Sports Turf Management.

Mark first came to the States through Ohio State University as an intern and was placed at Quail West Golf and Country in Naples, Fl and continued to work there for 7 years. Mark worked for Kelly Greens for 14 years, initially as the Assistant Superintendent, and then as Director of Golf and Grounds.  

Mark has served on various industry association Board of Directors for the past 12 years including the Local and State Chapter.

In his spare time, he loves spending time with his wife Kirsta and two boys, Tristan, 17 years who is gearing up to serve in the military, and the youngest Elliot, 13 years who enjoys golf.  The Thomas family loves to travel, visit amusement parks and our beautiful southwest Florida beaches.

THOMAS FUNK – DIRECTOR OF TENNIS

Thomas has been a Top Rated Elite USPTA Tennis Professional since 1983 and was the Founder and Past President of the local Lee County Community Tennis Association. Thomas has worked with the USTA as a National Tournament Director, Junior Tournament Director and referee. He has been USRSA Stringer Certified, a Wilson Advisory Staff Member and currently is the League Coordinator for Lee County Mixed League. In his career as a Tennis Director, he has directed the programs for several different types of facilities; corporate clubs, the City of Cape Coral and now is using his vast experience at the Estero Country Club, one of the finest programs in Southwest Florida.

WILTON DELACRUZ – FACILITY MANAGER

Chris Zuk – Assistant Tennis Professional

Chis was born and raised in southwest Florida between Cape Coral and Fort Myers. With his mother being a Tennis Pro, he was raised in a tennis family and has played and competed in USTA, UTR, and ITF tournaments since the age of 8 years old. He was a top-ranked junior tennis player in the USTA, ranked a top 10 player in Florida, and a 4-star tennis recruit.

ALIDOR BENNETT – ASSISTANT FOOD & BEVERAGE MANAGER

THOMAS DONAHUE – DIRECTOR OF FOOD & BEVERAGE  

Tom grew up in Naples, Florida and attended Barron Collier High School. He was active in the high school JROTC program and worked in some of Naples' finest restaurants after school. Upon graduation, Tom went into the Army. He spent most of his time in Germany and Texas.

Once back home in SWFL, he returned to the restaurant business, learning both back-of-house and front-of-house operations. Tom has spent the past Seventeen years working in one of Naples' finest Hotels as the Food and Beverage Director.
Tom is happily married with four children and enjoys traveling, reading, and, when time allows, volunteering on some of the Non-Profit Boards in the area.

Alidor Bennett has been in the private club and hotel management business for more than twelve years. He has a passion for service and is excited to meet all our members and provide them with “a home away from home” experience. When not working, Alidor spends his time with his wife and two wonderful children.

SONJA TERBUSH  – DINING ROOM MANAGER  

Born in Hamburg, Germany, Sonja is a widowed mother of 3 grown children, Hans, Tara, and Kyle, and a proud grandmother, "Oma" of 6 beautiful grandchildren.

Sonja has a degree in Marketing Management and spent several years in the retail industry managing Walmart stores. For the past ten years, she has worked as a dining room manager at Shadow Wood country club in Estero.

Her Australian Shepard and German Shepard mix dogs, Oliver & Twist, keep her busy when not at work. Sonja is well-traveled and has had a life full of wonderful experiences. She is happy to be starting a new chapter with everyone at Estero Country Club.

 

ALIDOR BENNETT – ASSISTANT FOOD & BEVERAGE MANAGER

TANNIS EDWARDS – ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS MANAGER

Most recently Tannis was employed at a private Golf Club located in Estero, FL. Tannis served as an Event and Banquet Coordinator and Executive Administrative Assistant to the General Manager/COO for the past eight plus years. She was an instrumental part of many of the Club’s events which included Welcome Back Party, Men’s and Ladies’ Invitationals, Season Celebration, and over 700 events. etc. She worked closely with the General Manager, the Director of Restaurant Operations and with Board Members with the explicit goal of ensuring that members and their guests were highly satisfied and felt truly welcome at the Club. Prior to that, Tannis was employed in Los Angeles as the Executive Assistant to the LLCSD Superintendent. Further job experiences include managing and operating her own restaurant in Buffalo, NY.

Tannis served as the co-organizer of the Buffalo Sabres’ Super Carnival Children’s Hospital fundraiser and was instrumental in the publishing and selling of the Calgary Flames cookbook which benefitted the local hospital. Tannis was born and raised in Southern Ontario and is married to a former NHL hockey player who also works in the golf industry and is a successful realtor. They have three grown children and five beautiful grandchildren.

Born in New Jersey, Dennis made his way to Florida as a young teenager. From the age of 10 he began earning money with a paper route and as soon as he was able, Dennis was professionally creating food as a pizza cook. He’s been described by previous employers as the “Best Grill Cook in Lee County”, he made his Sous Chef debut at a beach pub then on to other high-end restaurants in the area and finally landing here at Estero Country Club. Dennis has been on staff since 2014 as our own outstanding grill cook until promoted to Sous Chef.

BRANDON WHEELOCK – EXECUTIVE CHEF

BRANDON WHEELOCK, CEC – EXECUTIVE CHEF

Brandon Wheelock, the Executive Chef at Estero Country Club at The Vines, came to live in Florida in 1996 when he was just 8. He attended North Fort Myers High School while working at local restaurants in Cape Coral. He then joined the Army when he was 18, and was a field artillery tactical data system specialist for four years.

After returning home from a 15-month Iraq tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Brandon was honorably discharged from the Army. He was a member of the opening kitchen crew for the Resort at Marina Village (now a Westin Hotel) in Cape Coral. Brandon then went on to be the Sous Chef of Royal Palm Yacht Club and joined Estero Country Club as our Sous Chef in 2014. He has since obtained a degree in Culinary Arts from Keiser University and is in the process of obtaining his CEC from the American Culinary Federation.

Wilton has been in the construction business since 2003. Prior to joining Estero Country Club over 6 years ago he was with the HILTON chain for more than 10 years. Wilton enjoys spending time with his 3 children and when not working is travelling the world - most recently in Portugal.
